The Secret of Progressive Spiritual Development

by | Apr 29, 2020 | Bible Teaching

Many in the Church Today want quick solutions to their spiritual life. All through the years in my walk with God, I have seen many ruining their spiritual life by being impatient. They want God to lift them up in a year or two of their service in the ministry. They compare themselves with the successful ones or prosperous Ministers of God and become weary or depressed because they are unable to reach that status or fame. But the reality is different from the thought! Those who have come up in the spiritual life and are flourishing in the Kingdom of God have a history of sacrifice, commitment, hard work, patience and endurance. But these qualities are overlooked by the new comers; they want the quick ladder to success. If only they knew the truth! This post will enlighten you to the secret behind success to your spiritual call and future. Amen!

1 Samuel 17:31 When the words which David spoke were heard, they told them to Saul, and he sent for him.

David spoke words that were heard in King Saul’s palace and the events following that are history (as he brought down the Goliath and instantly became famous). The words of David had tremendous power! No one in Israel spoke the way David spoke. His words were heard by those around and straight way got carried to the King. It brings us to wonder on how David’s words carried such tremendous power to go and break in through the Kings chamber. The secret was in his upbringing.

David was influenced as a child by the spiritual upbringing present in his family since his family line served the LORD JEHOVAH with earnest zeal and passion. Look at David’s family line and you will know the secret of his greatness:

Ruth 4:21 and to Salmon was born Boaz, and to Boaz, Obed, 22 and to Obed was born Jesse, and to Jesse, David.

It took 4 generations of service to JEHOVAH that brought about a great kid like David. Some in the Church today think they ought to become great in days and when it doesn’t happen, they are frustrated.

Here is then the secret – The source of words is the heart, the heart is influenced by the culture in the Family, the Family by the Society, the Society by the State or the Country. That’s why it’s so important for each one of us to position ourselves under the right influence. Amen!

THIS IS WHAT I CALL “THE PROGRESSIVE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT” OF AN INDIVIDUAL!

When a person is ‘Born-Again’, he passes that knowledge of the Truth he is enlightened with to his family. The next generation takes up the baton from there and moves a little further gaining from the spiritual lessons that they been taught and so each generation steps a little further until a great spiritual child/ generation is eventually brought forth.

This is what happened with David and also Enoch as we see in the Bible.

Genesis 4:25 Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, she said, “God has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel, for Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call upon the name of the LORD.

The spiritual lineage of the first family on earth was finished with the death of Abel, the righteous one, who was killed by his brother Cain. Cain was cursed and banished by JEHOVAH! Adam and Eve brought forth another child “Seth” and brought him up in the ways of the LORD. Seth brought forth Enosh who brought back worship to JEHOVAH once again (after Abel) (Read verse 26 above).

The worship of Jehovah continued to grow gradually with every generation of Seth – from Seth to Enosh, Enosh to Kenan, Kenan to Mahalel, Mahalel to Jared, Jared to Enoch!

And so we see 5 generations of service to JEHOVAH that eventually brought about a man called Enoch who walked perfectly with God and was chosen to be resurrected!

Genesis 5:24 Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

With each generation, a certain amount of spiritual growth took place that led to a perfect generation that worshipped God without any fault or deviation. This is what I call “PROGRESSIVE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT”.

Dear child of God, remember your devotion to God is not a waste, your sacrifices are not in vain. Continue in your worship to God steadfastly, raise up a generation who will learn from you and instruct them to pass the baton. You will be victorious! Amen!

2 Timothy 1:5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you (Timothy), which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

Good Day!
